Class Dojo is a free, classroom management website. There is a user-friendly ClassDojo app that allows teachers to manage their classrooms on the go, like when transitioning from the classroom to lunch. In addition there is another app called "ClassDojo for Students," where students are able to log in to check their daily progress and can adapt their own avatar.
After creating a class, students and parents are given codes to log in to Class Dojo. Students can change their avatar and check their progress each day. Parents are able to see their child's progress and specifically what their child did well throughout the day (like being on task) or if there was a time when there needed to be improvement (like not following directions) on the child's part.
Class Dojo is an ad-free website that can be implemented in all grade levels. Special area teachers and subject area teachers may find this useful as it is a way to electronically document the behaviors of students.
Educational Uses of Site
Class Dojo promotes good classroom management and holds students accountable for their behavior, while giving them positive reinforcement, too. Parents are able to log into Class Dojo to check their child's behavior each day, which enhances communication between parents and teachers. The website is user-friendly and the apps are convenient. At times, it is important for teachers to keep documentation on behaviors. Class Dojo helps making documentation easy and hassle-free. Parents and teachers are able to message one another using the website and app. Class Dojo can be tailored to fit each teacher's needs. Teacher can decide what types of behaviors earn students points and which behaviors deserve points to be taken away.
Review of Site
I absolutely love Class Dojo and will be using it for the rest of my teaching career. It is an excellent way to not only track student behavior, but it also gives students positive reinforcement, which I think is extremely important because those students can get overshadowed with the poor behavior displayed in the classroom. Class Dojo also holds the students accountable. There have been several times when students have lost points for something like not following directions during the day and their parents will approach them about it and ask them to explain themselves. My students are aware that their parents are on the same page as me and are keeping an eye on their behavior. Another feature that I love is the ability to quickly "message" parents. I can send a mass message to every parent in the class at one time or I can send individual messages. I like using Class Dojo because I don't need to take the time to create a group contact list and manually enter each parent's email. Class Dojo's messaging feature has the same look and feel as texting. I've noticed more parents prefer contacting me via Class Dojo than regular email. Students are able to cash in their points for rewards in my classroom. For example, students can sit in a special chair for the day for fifty points. These rewards encourage students to try and earn the most points possible so they can take advantage of the rewards.
